FTI and Cecence in lightweight Carbon Prepreg first for the Aerospace Industry

Normally aerospace seat-backs are strengthened by a metallic frame. Cecence, who specialise in design, development and manufacture of composite interior parts for mass transportation, proved it was possible to manufacture their design of both hoop and shell using only composites, a carbon prepreg (reinforced) – creating a min.15% weight saving.

However, an essential requirement was that the material selected should be very safe but also quick and easy to process. FTI’s phenolic prepreg range, FibaRoll PH ZF, was chosen because it contains <0.01% free formaldehyde – and is one of the fastest curing phenolic prepregs in the world.

It was important too that the material should meet structural requirements, so Cecence specifically engineered and co-developed with FTI a Snap cure, carbon prepreg, ‘CePregPH’, which is exclusive to Cecence.

Curing in just five minutes at 135 °C for a complete curing cycle, FTI’s phenolic prepregs are built for speed, saving time and cost and increasing profit and capacity whilst maintaining excellent safety levels for the workforce.
