SUBJECT: Performance of FibaShield pre-insulated piping at Zeebrugge LNG Import Terminal
In 2013 Fluxys LNG awarded the EPC Contract for the LNG infrastructure for its 2nd Jetty, to
the JV TSLNG (Joint Venture Techint Sener LNG).
TSLNG had already used FibaShield on previous LNG projects and in mutual agreement, the system was also withheld for the long interconnecting lines between the existing LNG tanks, and the new jetty, over the LNG dike. The pre-insulated system was used on the 40″(un)loading line, the 10″ LNG recirculation line and the 20″ vapor return line, and this over a distance of about 1,3 km.
The experience of Fluxys LNG can be divided in two parts:
• For the construction, the system (especially when applied on straight lines), is faster
as only very limited insulation works have to be done on site, and quality better assured as the insulation is applied in a workshop, under constant atmospheric and work conditions.
• For operations, as the 2nd Jetty and thus also the pre-insulation lines are in service since December 2016, no cold spots nor icing are noticed, no maintenance or repairs had to be performed, and the overall BOG (Boil Off Gas) numbers are lower than expected.
